Despite the negative result, Sassuolo boss Davide Ballardini complimented his side’s performance after they were defeated 1-0 by Roma on Sunday.
A second half goal from Lorenzo Pellegrini were all the hosts needed to grab all three points and hand the Neroverdi their 18th defeat in Serie A this season.
“We played a very good match,” Ballardini told DAZN. “We held our own on the pitch, but we’ve got to be more courageous when we’ve got the ball.”
“Roma suffered a bit and, frankly, I think we could’ve done even more in certain moments when we weren’t aggressive. We can’t afford to let this happen because a team like Roma has quality and personality plus they can score in many ways.”
He continued, “The team is showing spirit, they’ve shown immense desire to compete and get results. These are very strong signals we’ve got to carry with us for the remainder of the season.”
“This team is well-built with leaders who possess loads of experience such as Consigli, Obiang, and Ferrari along with talented youngsters and players with personality. We have to keep working hard.”
