Sarri: ‘Lazio have 25-30% chance’ to beat Inter | OneFootball

Maurizio Sarri feels Lazio have a 25-30% chance to beat Inter in the Supercoppa semi-final: ‘They are among the best teams in Europe.’

The Biancocelesti are involved in the 2024 Supercoppa as last season’s Serie A runners-up. They will meet Coppa Italia champions Inter in the semi-final on Friday.

Games will go straight to penalty kicks if there’s a draw after 90 minutes, so Sarri was asked if his players would be practising from the spot.

“If practising was enough, it would be easy. We may score 20 today, but it’s different in front of the fans,” the Tuscan tactician replied.

“We’ll do it, but probably not much. I’ve already said what I think about the competition. We are motivated, we have the most difficult game against one of the best teams in Europe. We have a 25-30% chance [to quality]; we must be ambitious. Every trophy gives satisfaction to the club, the group and the staff.”

So, what do Lazio need to beat Inter?

“We must not make errors. They are part of the game, but Inter’s reputation means they’ll make fewer errors.”

Which players are not available?

“Zaccagni has pain in his feet and must stop sooner or later. Castellanos trained well yesterday, but it’s hard to see him start straight away, it’s a gradual recovery,” Sarri replied.

“This is the situation. Patric didn’t train yesterday, but hopefully, he will recover; the same goes for Cataldi due to the flu.”

Lega Serie A CEO Luigi De Siervo was inside the press room to follow Sarri’s presser so the Italian tactician was asked if he wanted to make peace with the directors after criticising the Supercoppa played in Saudi Arabia.

“I am not arguing, my criticism is to help Italian football. If a person says what he thinks, in good faith, it’s helpful,” Sarri replied.
