Milan are expected to decide which coach will take over from Stefano Pioli in the next few weeks, torn between Sergio Conceicao and Paulo Fonseca, with Maurizio Sarri in the background.
The Rossoneri again failed to impress in their Serie A clash with Genoa on Sunday, being held to a 3-3 draw at San Siro by Alberto Gilardino’s side, a result that further condemned Pioli ahead of the end of the season.
Last month, Milan were looking increasingly likely to make a move for Julen Lopetegui, who has been out of work since his Wolves exit last summer, but serious opposition from the fans, including a ‘Nopetegui’ petition ultimately forced the club to look elsewhere.
Page 18 of today’s Gazzetta dello Sport details how Conceicao and Fonseca are currently the leading candidates to take over from Pioli at Milan, with a decision expected to be made before the end of this month.
The former is highly rated for his work with Porto, whilst the latter is appreciated because of his knowledge of Serie A and positive spell with Roma. Exploratory talks have been held with both, but no final decision has been made yet.
In the background is Sarri, who left Lazio back in March. The Italian coach is not a leading candidate and hasn’t proved particularly convincing for the Rossoneri at this stage.
