Congratulations, Bouna Sarr! The Bayern defender has won the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon with his Senegalese national team. The 30-year-old right-back played all 120 minutes as his side beat record winners Egypt 4-2 on penalties in Yaoundé on Sunday evening, after the match had finished goalless after extra time. Sarr stepped up to take one of the penalties, which was saved by goalkeeper Abou Gabal, but it didn’t matter as Liverpool’s Sadio Mané converted the final spot kick to spark wild celebrations. It’s the first time that Senegal have won the Africa Cup of Nations.

Choupo-Moting third with Cameroon

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting’s Cameroon also finished the tournament on a high. The Indomitable Lions claimed the bronze medal in a thrilling third-place playoff. The hosts were 3-0 down after 49 minutes against Burkina Faso after goals from Yago, Onana (own goal) and Ouattara, but fought back to draw level thanks to Bahoken and a stunning late brace from Aboubakar. Cameroon then went on to win 5-3 in the penalty shootout. Choupo-Moting was not involved.
