Arsenal have announced the signing of French goalkeeper Sarah Bouhaddi on a short-term deal.

Joining as a free agent, Bouhaddi spent the previous season at Paris Saint-Germain, after moving from rivals Lyon in 2022. The 37-year-old has been recognised as the best goalkeeper in the world on four separate occasions by the International Federation of Football History & Statistics.

Speaking of the move, Bouhaddi said: “I’m delighted to be joining Arsenal and to become part of this great club. Arsenal has so much history across both the men’s and women’s teams and I’ve always admired the club.

“I’m excited to get the opportunity to play in a league that is going from strength to strength, and I want to bring my experience to help the rest of the squad. I can’t wait to get started.”

Bouhaddi began her senior career with Clairefontaine in 2002. She moved to Toulouse and then Juvisy before joining Olympique Lyonnais in 2009.

Over the course of a 13-year stint with Lyon, she helped the French giants win 11 league titles, eight French Cups and eight Champions Leagues, most recently in 2022. Bouhaddi also collected a total of 149 international caps for France.

“There aren’t many goalkeepers in world football with the breadth of experience and knowledge that Sarah has, so we’re delighted to bring her in to supplement our goalkeeping options,” Arsenal head coach Jonas Eidevall added.

The news comes in the same month that Manuela Zinsberger signed a new deal with the Gunners.
