São Paulo continued their impressive run in the Paulista Championship as they claimed a big 4-0 win over Mirassol on Sunday night. The win saw them move one step closer to winning the title as they advanced to the finals, where they will take on current holders Palmeiras who defeated Corinthians in the other semifinal fixture.
For Tricolor, Arboleda, Gabriel Sara, Pablo and Luciano all scored in the convincing rout.
It was a game to forget for Mirassol goalkeeper Alex Muralha, who was more or less at fault for both goals.
São Paulo star Miranda said speaking after the game: “First of all, I would like to highlight the team’s commitment. Congratulations team for what you presented. Highlighting the good result, unfortunately Sara took my goal, but I’m happy for him, he brings the confidence he needs. We don’t have time to celebrate, let’s think about Tuesday. Friday, dispute the leadership of the group.”
“Now thinking is the decision at Libertadores and then the final. The team is to be congratulated, but it is thinking game by game. We have to do where we deserve the good results. To continue what we are doing and never give up “.
Elsewhere, goals from Victor Luis and Luiz Adriano secured a semifinal win for Palmeiras over Corinthians, with Verdao looking to defend their crown.
The result makes Palmeiras extend their unbeaten away run. Verdão have not lost in their last 13 away games (one for the 2020 season and 12 for the 2021). In that time, they have recorded eight victories in a row. Their last defeat came back in February 25, when they lost 2-0 to Atletico-MG 2-0 in the final fixture of the Brazilian Championship.
The Paulista Football Federation have announced the date for the first leg of the finals as the 21st of May, with the first leg to be played at Allianz Parque. The return leg will now be played at Morumbi.
São Paulo vs Palmeiras in the final promises to be a great game. They are two teams that have similar game systems and that resemble each other in many things, such as pressure on the ball and the efficiency of their attacks. It would be interesting to watch as both teams try to outwit each other.
