São Paulo are closing in on a contract extension with defender Alan Franco after resolving long-standing financial issues with the player’s representatives, according to Arquibancada Tricolor. Negotiations to renew Franco’s deal have been on hold for several months, largely due to outstanding debts the club owed to the Argentine centre-back’s agents.
Talks initially began at the start of the year but quickly stalled as São Paulo’s financial obligations to Franco’s camp became the main sticking point. However, both parties have now reached an agreement on the amounts still to be paid, effectively clearing the path for a new deal to be finalized.
With most of the significant obstacles now behind them, São Paulo and Franco’s team are working through remaining legal details required to officially formalize the contract. The extension is viewed internally as an important move, reflecting Franco’s reliable performances this season and the club’s desire to retain key players as the Brazilian league campaign intensifies.
São Paulo’s leadership considers Franco a strategic asset for the remainder of the campaign, given his role in the defense and the importance of squad stability. The move to secure Franco’s future comes as the club seeks to maintain consistency amid a demanding run of fixtures and strong competition within their squad for starting places.
Discussions have now shifted to the final bureaucratic steps, suggesting an announcement could follow soon, provided no late complications arise in the legal review of the agreement. The club’s decision to address the financial dispute signals a renewed commitment to supporting the current core of the squad through what promises to be a challenging stretch of the season.
