Club América are almost assured of a place in the quarter-finals after last night’s 2-1 victory over Santos, which came courtesy of a late goal from Sebastián Córdova.
Manager Santiago Solari improved his career record at América to an incredible 23 wins, seven draws, and six losses in just 36 games and he was certainly proud of his side’s toughness after the win.
He also took the time to note the slow return to face-to-face press conferences with the media.
“I am happy to be able to see the media personally, that makes me happy, little by little the old normality returns, which is what we all hope for.
“The game was against a serious, tough opponent. We already knew it and we know how they play and how they are, which highlights the effort of our players.
“We came from a very tough away game just three days ago and today we repeated our efforts (winning in the last minutes).
“The calendar is very demanding and the players have left everything out there on the pitch. They have not save anything and that is why we got the result.”
América will now get ready for Tigres with one eye looking ahead to next Thursday’s Concacaf Champions League final at Rayados.
