Santiago Solari believes América’s last-gasp victory at Atlético San Luis on Saturday was just reward for his side’s massive effort.
The Azulcrema were forced into changes due to the after-effects of the latest international break, but Colombia striker Roger Martínez came off the bench to hit a dramatic winner in the seventh minute of stoppage time.
Las Águilas moved six points clear of Atlas at the top of the Apertura table as a result, meaning that are the first team to book their place in post-season action.
“We are very pleased to have rewarded the effort. This group of players is united, intermixed, and strives as a group and individually,” manager Solari said, per MARCA Claro.
“Today the performances of [Mario] Osuna, [Fernando] Madrigal, [Nicolás] Benedetti in the first half.
“The internationals were on the bench because they played less than 48 hours ago. The four Mexico players came and played today, including our captain (Guillermo Ochoa).
“This group is united and all together made the effort, we are rewarded.”
América need just one more point to guarantee home advantage in the Repechage, though they are in prime position to finish in the top four and gain automatic qualification to the quarter-finals.
