Bologna FC 1909 is happy to announce that Santiago Castro has joined the Club from CA Velez Sarsfield on a permanent basis.

Born in 2004, Santiago is the fifteenth Argentinian in the Club’s history and is a striker who loves to be involved in all kinds of up-front action. Star of the Albiceleste U23 National team, currently playing qualifiers for the Paris Olympics, he has an eye for the goal and a powerful foot, even from a distance.

He broke into the Velez senior side at only 16, debuting in the Copa Libertadores in 2022 with agility, rapid finishing skills and also working well as an offensive winger: Castro exploded in 2023, a difficult year for El Fortín with two changes in the dugout, making a big contribution to saving the side from relegation. In the Coppa de la Liga, he scored 6 important goals, securing himself as the club’s top scorer in the competition. Good in the air and determined, he works well defensively as well as attacking the box or creating space and sitting back: alone or as part of a striking partnership, he can also play as an offensive winger who is ready to fight for every ball and take on every tackle. He is one of the most exciting up-and-coming Argentine talents and arrives in Rossoblù after 64 appearances and 9 goals for Velez.
