Santi Cazorla extends his contract with Real Oviedo

Remember Santi Cazorla? Well, you'll be seeing him back on La Liga pitches next season.

Newly promoted Real Oviedo has announced the contract extension of their 40-year-old midfielder until June 30, 2026. A product of the Oviedo academy, Cazorla returned to his boyhood club in August 2023 after a glittering career with stops at Villarreal, Arsenal, and Al-Sadd. His mission? To help his formative club return to the top flight of Spanish football 24 years after leaving La Liga. Mission accomplished.

With his initial contract set to expire in the summer of 2025, questions lingered over Cazorla's future. But talks have come to a successful conclusion, and the former Spanish international will continue to wear the sky blue shirt for at least one more season.

Since his return, Cazorla has played 61 matches, scored 5 goals, and provided 9 assists. Next season, he'll be back in La Liga for the first time with his boyhood club, bringing all his experience to the top level once again.
