Leroy Sane has opened up on his development under Pep Guardiola and explained how the Manchester City manager ‘reprogrammed’ all aspects of his game.

Sane established himself as one of the finest attacking talents in the Premier League during four seasons in English football, winning back-to-back league titles and a domestic treble with City before completing a return to the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich this summer.

The Germany international was named as the winner of the PFA Young Player of the Year award during that first title-winning season and flourished under the guidance of Guardiola, despite widespread reports the winger had sought an exit from the Etihad due to the Spaniard’s intense demands.

Sane, however, has rubbished those claims and opened up on how Guardiola improved his game following his arrival in the Premier League from Schalke, admitting the two-time Champions League winner ‘reprogrammed’ his game to get the best from his talents.

“In positional play, in the general perception of the entire game, in tactical behaviour both offensively and defensively – Guardiola downright reprogrammed me,” Sane told German outlet, Kicker.

“It’s the simple movements that make you think, ‘Oh, never’. But when you implement them, you realise very quickly that Guardiola is right. What he advises helps a lot, it makes the game easier and faster. Tactics are the most important thing to him.”
