Chelsea have announced the signing of French international Sandy Baltimore. The forward joins the Blues from Paris Saint-Germain, where she had spent the previous nine years. The four-year deal will see Baltimore join Sonia Bompastor’s side as the new head coach continues building her squad for her first season in charge.
Baltimore made more than 200 appearances for PSG, having joined the clubs’ academy in 2015. The French international is able to play on either wing alongside a variety of positions across the midfield. Despite being just 24-years-old, Baltimore brings a wealth of experience to her new side. Winning one French league title, three French cups, and making 43 appearances in the Champions League, the forward could be pivotal in Chelsea’s silverware challenges next season.
Speaking on the move, Baltimore said: “I’m very happy to join Chelsea. It feels incredible. I have always wanted to play for Chelsea and now look, it has happened!”
General manager Paul Green added: “We are delighted to bring Sandy to Chelsea. She is an exciting wide player who will give more balance to the squad, adding another naturally left footed player. Sandy has gained a wealth of experience in France including within the UEFA Women’s Champions League and will bring more competition to the squad. We are looking forward to seeing her in Chelsea blue.”
Chelsea already boast an attacking line up littered with international stars including Catarina Macario, Mayra Ramírez, Aggie Beever-Jones and Sam Kerr. Due to Kerr being sidelined through injury, Baltimore adds a crucial attacking option to Bompastor’s squad.
The Blues will be hoping to claim a staggering sixth consecutive Women’s Super League title, following a nail-biting end to the 2023/24 campaign. The title race was one of the closest in the league’s history, with Chelsea finishing above Gareth Taylor’s Manchester City only on goal difference.
