FC Barcelona ended their 2024/25 campaign on a high note with a commanding 3-0 victory over Athletic Club at San Mames, a performance that radiated the class of champions. Despite the match carrying no stakes, both sides played with intensity and commitment, delivering an exciting finale to the season.

Ernesto Valverde’s side started the game very well, but it was Barcelona who struck the first blow. Fermin Lopez’ through ball found Robert Lewandowski and the Polish veteran delicately chipped Unai Simon to give Barcelona a 1-0 lead.

This was soon followed by a corner that Raphinha took, which found its way to the Pole at the back post. Lewandowski headed it home to score his second goal of the night. Incidentally, the 36-year-old scored his 100th goal for Barcelona last night.

Finishing off in style

One Barcelona player who had a brilliant game last night, much like he has had all season, was Pedri. The Spanish midfield magician controlled the tempo of the game brilliantly, pulling all the strings and yet again underlining why he is one of the most press-resistant midfielders in the world.

What Pedri managed to do with the game against Bilbao last night was to complete an entire season without picking up a single injury. In total, he has missed just one game for Barcelona all season, a 7-1 win over Valencia and even that was through illness.

As reported by Mundo Deportivo, the San Mames gave Pedri an ovation as he was taken off for one final time this season. It was a testament to the player’s class and quality to see the opposition recognize his efforts when he was substituted.

San Mames’ classy gesture

San Mames’ crowd are a very passionate fanbase who hardly support anyone apart from their team. Last night, they chose to boo every time Lamine Yamal got on the ball and it tells so much that they chose to applaud Pedri.

As Pedri continues to blossom into one of Spain’s finest midfielders, his influence extends beyond the Camp Nou. Now set to don La Roja’s colours in the Nations League, the 22-year-old heads into international duty in peak form. If his club performances are any indication, fans across the country have every reason to be hopeful.
