Sampdoria Sporting Director Daniele Faggiano feels that Bologna striker Marko Arnautovic is a “disappointing” target for Inter Milan.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, the Blucerchiati executive contrasted the Nerazzurri targeting the 34-year-old with the players who he’ll be replacing, Edin Dzeko and Romelu Lukaku.

This summer, Inter have looked into a number of possible signings in the striker position.

Romelu Lukaku had long looked like the priority, at least until the soap opera of last month.

Then, Gianluca Scamacca came onto the Nerazzurri’s radar – but the 24-year-old instead made the switch to Atalanta.

Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun has reportedly been a major target for Inter. But the Nerazzurri appear reluctant to invest the kind of fee that the Gunners want to sign the US international.

Therefore, Inter’s search goes on.

Austrian former West Ham United and Stoke City striker Arnautovic has been one of the hot names in the past few days.

The 34-year-old would certainly bring experienced and a reliable profile in Serie A.

However, there are some doubts about whether Arnautovic is really the right player to make the step up from midtable club like Bologna.

Given his agent, it is not as though the Austrian has much in the way of room to grow.

Sampdoria executive Faggiano said that “It only makes sense to be disappointed,” about the situation.

“If you’re the runners-up in the Champions League and trying to replace Dzeko and Lukaku with a 34-year-old, it means that you have some problems,” he continued.

“It’s not hard to expect that thee’d go all in on bringing Lukaku back,” he continued.

“But then of course with how that situation went, they had to look elsewhere.”

“So hats off to the Nerazzurri directors for how they handled that situation,” Faggiano said of Inter pulling the plug on signing Lukaku.
