Inter captain Samir Handanovic is set to sign a one-year contract extension at the end of the current season.

This according to Italian news outlet Gazzetta.it, who report that the 37-year-old is ready to move forward with the Nerazzurri, and that there is not any expectation on his part of having the starting spot in goal.

Andre Onana will arrive on a free transfer from Ajax this summer, and has been identified as the long-term successor to Handanovic in goal.

However, the Cameroonian may take some time to settle in, and the club have been hoping to have the current captain stay on for at least one more season whilst the new keeper finds his feet at the Nerazzurri.

Handanovic is ready to take a pay cut in order to sign the extension given that he will not be the probable first-choice keeper any longer, with the €4.1 million net per season that he currently earns set to be reduced to €2.5 million net per season.
