Frozen-out Tottenham defender Davinson Sanchez will be considering his options in January after Joe Rodon started ahead of him against Chelsea.

That is the view of legendary Premier League striker Kevin Phillips, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs about the future of the Colombia international.

Rodon was handed his Premier League debut against the Blues and put in an impressive performance in the 0-0 draw.

The Welshman was handed an opportunity as first-choice Toby Alderweireld suffered an injury against Manchester Cty that will keep him out for up to four weeks.

Sanchez, who had not been in Spurs’ squad for their last four Premier League fixtures before the visit to Stamford Bridge, could only watch on from the bench.

The 24-year-old has not been seen in the league since Tottenham’s disastrous collapse against West Ham last month, when he scored a humiliating own goal that was subsequently mocked by Mourinho.

“He could be heading down the same path as Dele Alli,” Phillips told Football Insider.

“A young player has started at the weekend ahead of him and that is always a concern.

“Sanchez has been there a while now and he has had his ups, his downs and a fair share of criticism.

“When you see a player brought in who is younger than you, I would be slightly concerned. It does not bode well. I would consider my options come January.”

After missing Tottenham’s first game against Everton, Sanchez started four consecutive Premier League games up until the draw with West Ham.

He signed for Spurs from Ajax in August 2017 for a reported £42million fee, a club record at the time.
