Chelsea needed all three points to keep themselves in the driver’s seat for the title but a strong defensive performance from Spurs frustrated Emma Hayes’ side for most of the first half.

Specifically, goalkeeper Rebecca Spencer and defender Shelina Zadorsky shut down attempts from Sam Kerr, Beth England and Guro Reiten.

Eventually, though, Spurs’ brick wall was broken as Kerr found the back of the net on either side of the break to secure a crucial victory for the visitors.

With the brace, Kerr brings her personal tally to 20 league goals in 21 games.

Heading into the final round of games on 9 May, Chelsea sit two points ahead of Manchester City at the top of the table while Spurs sit eighth.
