Borussia Dortmund midfielder Salih Özcan has spoken to Juergen Koers at Ruhr Nachrichten where he discusses his move from FC Köln to Borussia Dortmund and settling into his new surroundings.
The former Germany U21 and now Turkish international had a slow start to his time at BVB due to injury. Since returning, the number six has played the last two Bundesliga matches against Hertha Berlin and Hoffenheim and guided his side to consecutive 1-0 victories.
When speaking about his summer move to Dortmund, it was a straight forward decision for Özcan: “It was an easy decision. I wanted a change and to test my limits at a larger club, to broaden my horizons, the clubs and their fans tick in a similar way, only BVB is even bigger as a club, with huge ambitions.”
When Özcan learned of BVB’s interest, he admitted that he didn’t have to think long about his next move.
The 24-year-old explained: “I told my agent from the start that BVB was the top favourite for me. The talks went well. Then it quickly became clear.”
Having signed a contract to 2026 with Dortmund, Özcan wants to help the squad achieve great things: “I don’t come here and say I’ll play 60 games from the start, I’m not just looking at myself selfishly. The team should be successful.”
