The Sky Sports television cameras head to the Peninsula Stadium for Monday night’s League Two clash between Salford and MK Dons.
The match gets underway at 20:00 on Monday September 2, 2024 and it promises to be an entertaining fourth-tier tie.
MK Dons were well fancied to win promotion from League Two, and the Dons are still prominent in the title betting, but it hasn’t been a perfect start for Mike Williamson’s men. The Dons lost their opening three matches of the campaign, but Williamson’s side bounced back to hammer Carlisle 3-0 last time out and MK will hope that result can kick-start their campaign.
Salford are still searching for their first win of the season and the Ammies will be hoping to break their duck as manager Karl Robinson takes on his former club.
Salford weren’t helped by Curtis Tilt’s 71st minute red card in their 1-1 draw at Chesterfield last time out, but the Ammies were clearly second best in that contest and they look set for a tough night when MK Dons come to the Peninsula.
Prior to that, Salford failed to register a single shot on target in a 2-0 EFL Trophy defeat to Port value and the lack of attacking output has to be a major concern for manager Robinson.
The Ammies have registered only seven shots on target in their first five matches of the campaign and they now face one of League Two’s strongest teams.
The Dons were seriously impressive when crushing Carlisle 3-0 in their latest League Two contest and Williamson’s men appear to be on a progressive track. MK hit 15 shots and an expected goals tally of 2.55 in that rout of the Cumbrians and it’s difficult to see Salford keeping the Dons at bay.
At a whopping 10/1, it could pay to take a chance on MK Dons to score four or more goals at Salford on Monday night.
The Dons found their scoring touch when beating Carlisle 3-0 last time out, and although Williamson’s men scored just one goal in their two previous League Two matches against Bradford and Colchester, MK bossed the ball in those matches and created plenty of chances.
Salford look a pretty average fourth-tier side this season and it remains to be seen if Robinson has the necessary tools to get the Ammies up the table.
Robinson’s men have already conceded seven goals this season, they allowed Chesterfield 14 shots and 66 per cent possession in their latest League Two contest and they could be on the end of a hiding against the Dons.
