Sale of Chelsea to get government approval within 24 hours

The UK government will approve the sale of Chelsea within the next 24 hours, according to the BBC

They write that approval is on the way, following a similar green light from the Premier League to the bid from Todd Boehly’s consortium, itself the chosen buyer of Raine Group, appointed by Roman Abramovich to conduct the sale.

A slight complication, heretofore unseen, is that Abramovich is a Portuguese passport holder, meaning a deal would also have to be approved there.

Government ministers are apparently making the necessary arrangements at the European Commission. Meanwhile the difficulties that arose last week surrounding how the £1.6bn fee would be managed, seem to have been resolved, meaning there are few hurdles left to jump.

The current operating license on Chelsea – a sanctioned asset of Roman Abramovich – expires at the end of this month, and a sale before then is vital. It looks like it’s almost done now.
