An excellent solo effort against Everton back in December saw Mohamed Salah pick up the award for the best goal of the year in the entire footballing world, sparking debate and rage online.

Overhead-kicks from Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale were overlooked, as was Benjamin Pavard’s superb World Cup volley and a unique flick from Melbourne City’s Riley McGree.

However, they all lost out to the Egyptian King. The curious thing is, Salah’s goal didn’t even win Premier League Goal of the Month last December.

That accolade went to Jermain Defoe, who scored a stunning volley for Bournemouth against Crystal Palace.

For the sake of comparison, here’s Salah’s goal one more time.

Premier League Goal of the Month? No.

FIFA Goal of the Year? Yes.

Figure that one out.
