However, what we may have missed during the clash was that Bernardo appeared to aim a kick at Salah.

The pair squared up on the pitch with the Portuguese pushing away Salah.

But it wasn't just the foul. Footage shows that the Man City midfielder appeared to aim a kick and an elbow at Salah after the foul had occurred.

While it's not exactly clear, there was certainly a clash between the two players with Bernardo appearing to back into Salah and kick out.

Take a look at the incident here:

No wonder Klopp was so angry...

The German was sent off for his reaction after Taylor waved play on - and he still couldn't quite believe it at full time.

Klopp couldn't believe Liverpool weren't given free kick

"But you cannot have this situation," Klopp said. "It is the clearest foul I ever saw in front of the linesman and he is not bothered. It is clear. They just watch the game but we [the managers] are involved."

Bernardo calls for 'consistency'

Meanwhile, Silva himself asked for 'consistency' in decisions after his side had a goal disallowed for Erling Haaland's tug on Fabinho.

“What we expect from the referees is consistency in their decisions,” he told Sky Sports.

“When you go through a path of not whistling little contacts throughout the whole game, you need to keep those decisions and keep going that way.

“If you want to whistle all of them, whistle all of them.

“But if from the beginning of the game you’re not whistling little fouls – and we saw in this game that he was letting us play, which is good, which is fine – then if there is a goal you cannot whistle a soft one.

“If you want consistency from a referee, you cannot change [approach] just because there is a goal and just because it’s a tough decision.

“You have to make the tough decision and keep the goal, in my opinion.”
