Following the conclusion of a final round of international fixtures this week, the 2021/22 football season has officially drawn to a close.

In normal circumstances, we would now be in the midst of a summer World Cup tournament with players from around the globe entertaining us all – several of which inevitably put themselves in the shop window for a big-money move thanks to their performances.

As we all know, the decision to host the 2022 World Cup in Qatar means that we have to wait until late November to enjoy the ultimate festival of international football.

Despite the lack of a major tournament this summer, though, there’s still likely to be plenty of movement in the transfer market over the next couple of months as clubs prepare for the 2022/23 season.

With that in mind, we’ve decided to take a look at the most valuable player from each of the top 50 men’s nations as ranked by FIFA, as per Transfermarkt’s most recent market update.

From 50th-placed Paraguay to top-ranked Brazil, every nation has a jewel in its crown. Let’s dive into the countdown below.

The most valuable player from the top 50 countries in the world

50. Paraguay – Miguel Almirón (£14.4m)

49. Saudi Arabia – Sultan Al-Ghanam (£2.7m)

48. Romania – Razvan Marin (£10.8m)

47. Republic of Ireland – Matt Doherty (£10.8m)

46. Ecuador – Pervis Estupiñán (£18m)

45. Slovakia – Milan Škriniar (£58.5m)

44. Algeria – Riyad Mahrez (£31.5m)

43. Turkey – Çağlar Söyüncü (£36m)

42. Australia – Aaron Mooy, Mathew Ryan and Harry Soutar (all £4.5m)

41. Norway – Erling Haaland (£135m)

Norway might only be the 41st best-ranked country on the planet, but they still boast the second-priciest player in Manchester City striker Haaland. If the 21-year-old keeps up the staggeringly prolific start to his career, expect Norway to rise up the FIFA rankings over the next decade.

At the other end of the scale, Saudi Arabia left-back Al-Ghanam is officially the lowest-valued player on this list at £2.7m.

40. Hungary – Dominik Szoboszlai (£25.2m)

39. Scotland – Andrew Robertson (£58.5m)

38. Canada – Alphonso Davies (£63m)

37. Cameroon – André-Frank Zambo Anguissa (£27m)

36. Russia – Aleksandr Golovin (£22.5m)

35. Tunisia – Ellyes Skhiri (£11.7m)

34. Austria – David Alaba (£49.5m)

33. Czech Republic – Patrik Schick (£45m)

32. Egypt – Mohamed Salah (£81m)

31. Costa Rica – Keylor Navas (£7.2m)

Liverpool pair Robertson and Salah rank as the most valuable player for Scotland and Egypt respectively. Despite their considerable price tags, neither will be a part of the World Cup later this year after their nations suffered elimination in the play-off stages of qualification.

30. Nigeria – Victor Osimhen (£58.5m)

29. Korea Republic – Son Heung-min (£67.5m)

28. Chile – Ben Brereton Díaz (£14.4m)

27. Ukraine – Ruslan Malinovskyi (£25.2m)

26. Poland – Robert Lewandowski (£40.5m)

25. Serbia – Dušan Vlahović (£76.5m)

24. Morocco – Achraf Hakimi (£58.5m)

23. Japan – Takehiro Tomiyasu (£22.5m)

22. Peru – Renato Tapia (£9m)

21. Iran – Sardar Azmoun (£19.8m)

Lewandowski likely won’t be a Bayern Munich player by the time he heads to the World Cup with Poland. The 33-year-old has made his desire to leave the club very clear and is reportedly keen on a switch to Barcelona.

Even with just a year left on his current deal, however, Bayern will surely demand a hefty fee for the £40.5m-rated striker.

20. Senegal – Sadio Mane (£63m)

19. Sweden – Dejan Kulusevski (£36m)

18. Wales – Ben Davies (£18m)

17. Colombia – Luis Diaz (£58.5m)

16. Croatia – Mateo Kovacic (£37.8m)

15. USA – Christian Pulisic (£37.8m)

14. Switzerland – Manuel Akanji (£27m)

13. Uruguay – Federico Valverde (£63m)

12. Germany – Joshua Kimmich (£72m)

11. Denmark – Pierre-Emile Højbjerg (£36m)

Mane’s market value of £63m suggests that Bayern Munich may have done a shrewd bit of business by agreeing on a £35m fee with Liverpool for his services this week.

Elsewhere at Anfield, Diaz’s impressive start to his career on Merseyside has seen his value increase by £18m in just six months.

Tottenham’s £18m-rated left-back Davies is Wales’ most valuable player according to the data, although the nation will be pinning its World Cup dreams on Gareth Bale, estimated to be worth a mere £2.7m.

10. Netherlands – Matthijs de Ligt (£63m)

9. Mexico – Hirving Lozano (£27m)

8. Portugal – Bruno Fernandes (£76.5m)

7. Spain – Rodri and Pedri (both £72m)

6. Italy – Nicolò Barella (£63m)

5. England – Harry Kane and Phil Foden (both £81m)

4. Argentina – Lautaro Martinez (£67.5m)

2. Belgium – Kevin De Bruyne (£76.5m)

1. Brazil – Vinicius Jr (£90m)

Cristiano Ronaldo – Portugal’s most accomplished player ever – is only 14th-ranked in his nation when it comes to current market value. With a price tag of £27m, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner now sits almost £50m shy of top-rated Fernandes.

Ronaldo’s eternal rival Lionel Messi has things slightly better when it comes to the Argentina rankings. Valued at £45m, Messi is forced to settle for second spot behind Inter’s Martinez.

The crown of England’s most valuable player is shared by Kane and Foden, although the talented Man City youngster looks well-placed to take top billing on his own over the next few years.

At an eye-watering £144m, France’s Mbappe has the greatest price tag of any player on the planet according to Transfermarkt, although if Brazil’s Vinicius Jr continues his exceptional form, he could find himself in a similar price bracket soon.
