Salah admits he would ‘love to stay’ at Liverpool, but says his future out of his hands

Mohamed Salah has insisted that he would ‘love’ to stay at Liverpool for the rest of his career, but admits his future at the club is out of his hands.

The Egyptian King has started the season on absolute fire, netting in a club-record nine consecutive fixtures as Liverpool have got off to an unbeaten start to the campaign to underline their title credentials.

His recent form has only strengthened the clamour for Liverpool to tie their number 11 down to a new contract, his current deal at the club set to expire in less than two years time.

Liverpool have already secured a number of key players down to new deals, including Alisson, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk, but there has been little progress on a new deal for the 29-year-old.

There have been some suggestions that he is demanding a salary of around £500,000-a-week to put him in line with some of the Premier League’s top earners, though wages that would bust the club’s current wage structure.

However, the former Chelsea and Roma forward has categorically laid his cards on the table and said that the ball is firmly in Liverpool’s court.

“If you ask me, I would love to stay until the last day of my football career, but I can’t say much about that – it’s not in my hands,” he told Sky Sports.

“It depends on what the club want, not on me.

“At the moment I can’t see myself ever playing against Liverpool. That would make me sad. It’s hard, I don’t want to talk about it, but it would make me really sad.

“At the moment I don’t see myself playing against Liverpool but let’s see what will happen in the future.”

Salah’s form have seen some to pose the question as to whether he is currently the best player in world football, and while he wasn’t keen to blow his own trumpet, he did admit it is ‘always the ambition’ to be the best.

“It sounds great to me but I think it’s always opinion,” Salah said. “I can’t say I’m the best player in the world – some people agree, some people not.

“I’m just happy about my performance at the moment, but I would always say it’s opinion.

“It’s always the ambition to be the best player in the world. I don’t have to lie. It’s something that drives me to work really hard and just try to be the best version of myself.

“In my head, I’m the best player all the time. I’m trying to have that confidence in my head. It doesn’t matter if some people agree with you, some people not.”
