Fashion Sakala to Auxerre is a fascinating story. If ever there was a Rangers player that absolutely no fan believed had much stock or likelihood of leaving this summer, it was the Zambian, with an indifferent start to his Ibrox career.
But here we are, newly-promoted Auxerre curiously, apparently, want him on loan for a single season, an offer Rangers have apparently unsurprisingly rejected.
Auxerre’s manager, Jean-Marc Furlan, is said to be a very big admirer of Sakala, and considers him someone he’d very much like to take to France, but unless the Stade Abbe Deschamps side come up with a major permanent offer rather than a loan, it’s a non-starter.
The bizarre thing is how short Rangers are on attackers. Just one recognised striker, two all-round forwards, and two of those are injured while the other has never been a first pick.
So why Auxerre think they can ‘borrow’ one of our few remaining options only they know.
The source is a French outlet much of the size, incidentally, of Ibrox Noise (including on social media) called Homme du Match, but based on football in general and not just one club like us.
We’re not sure how reliable we’d suggest such an outlet is when it’s the same size as us but meant to cover world football and not just one side.
They also claim this story as an ‘exclusive’ which could be quite telling. We have no idea of their past record.
It’s an odd story alright.
