AS Saint-Étienne hope to convince Olympique de Marseille to loan François-Régis Mughe (19) to them on a deal that will see the winger at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard until the end of the season.
Mughe had refused an international call-up to play for Cameroon during the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations, preferring instead to stay at Marseille and fight for his place in the team.
Marseille were in the midst of a selection crisis in Mughe’s position, with Illiman Ndiaye, Ismaïla Sarr, Amine Harit, and Azzedine Ounahi all representing their nations at the tournament.
However, it appears now, that Mughe may not get the chance to impress, as Marseille have instead looked towards securing the services of the playmaker Giovanni Reyna (21) in this transfer window.
His disappointment at falling further down the pecking order may prove to be Les Verts’ gain, as according to L’Équipe, they have been monitoring his situation and will look to offer the young winger an opportunity to play regular football in Ligue 2 as they hope to secure promotion back into the top division.
Albeit Saint-Étienne will not be alone in their interest in the Mughe, with L’Équipe reporting that multiple other unnamed second-division clubs are keen on a deal for the forward.
