The Carabao Cup final between Manchester United and Newcastle this month will see some fans allowed to stand.

Each side will receive an allocation of 867 seats for their fans which will be situated behind each of the goals.

The EFL confirmed the decision on Thursday and the allocated spaces for supporters to stand will feature a barrier or rail preventing supporters from falling forward. Fans situated elsewhere across Wembley have been advised that they must remain seated.

Standing in some seated areas has been permitted since the start of this season, with Premier League clubs including Manchester City and Chelsea having provided sections to stand.

Manchester United secured their place in the Carabao Cup final with a 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest on Wednesday evening, as goals from Anthony Martial and Fred secured a 5-0 aggregate win over Steve Cooper’s side.

Erik ten Hag will be hoping to end the club’s wait for a major honour during his debut campaign, with the Red Devils having last lifted a trophy in 2016/17.

Newcastle progressed to their final major cup final in 24 years after beating Southampton over two legs in the semi-finals. The Magpies have not featured in a domestic cup decider since meeting Manchester United in the 1999 FA Cup final.
