Marcel Sabitzer is keen to remain at Bayern Munich and compete for a first-team place despite speculation linking the midfielder with a move to Roma.

Sabitzer spent the second half of last season on loan at Manchester United after struggling for regular first-team football at Bayern, where he made just seven Bundesliga starts across the first half of the campaign.

The Austria international scored three goals in 18 appearances for Manchester United, but the Red Devils decided against turning his loan into a permanent deal.

Roma have been linked with a move to sign the 29-year-old, but Sky Italy are reporting that Sabitzer will turn down a move to Serie A in favour of competing for a place at Bayern.

Sabizter’s stance comes despite Bayern Munich’s desire to sell the midfielder on a permanent basis, as the Bavarians look to bring in additional funds to aid their pursuit of Tottenham forward Harry Kane.

Bayern have already signed Sabitzer’s former RB Leipzig team-mate Konrad Laimer on a free transfer to add to their midfield options, while fellow free transfer Raphael Guerreiro can also operate in midfield and has signed from Borussia Dortmund.
