Wrexham are reported to have a huge transfer kitty for a new striker which would smash the club's current transfer record.
Wrexham are reportedly armed with a £10m budget to shell out a club-record transfer fee on a striker this summer.
Wrexham have been linked with numerous players over the course of this summer, but their activity in the summer transfer market has so far been quite light, with only three confirmed incomings so far.
The Red Dragons are fully aware of the need to strengthen as they return to the Championship for the first time since 1982. The club's ambitions remain high, following three promotions in the last four years.
Wrexham have already made big changes to the look of their attack with the departure of iconic striker Paul Mullin on loan to Wigan Athletic, and the release of veteran forward Steven Fletcher at the end of his contract.
It's clear that they mean business as they prepare for life in the second tier.
Journalist Alan Nixon reports that Wrexham have green-lighted £10 million to spend on a striker to lead their line for next season, although no targets have been identified in this price range yet.
Red Dragons boss Phil Parkinson is understood to have been informed that he can blow the club's record transfer fee out of the water on a new centre-forward this summer, a record which they may well have only just set with the arrival of Empoli defender Liberato Cacace.
This is despite the fact they've already signed a striker this summer, with former Plymouth Argyle star Ryan Hardie making a move to the Racecourse Ground in mid-June.
Wrexham are also said to be showing an interest in Sheffield Wednesday forward Josh Windass, who left the Yorkshire club by mutual consent after the cancellation of his contract on account of the late payment of wages by his former club.
Two Wednesday players have already departed on account of this, and Wrexham are also reported to have had an interest in the other one in the past, as well.
Michael Smith is the other departed player, and Nixon reports that Smith may receive another offer from Wrexham, having been subject to them before he left Hillsborough.
The departures of Josh Windass and Michael Smith sent shock waves through Hillsborough.
These were Wednesday's two highest-scoring players in the Championship in the 2024-25 season, and their loss was a sobering reminder of the precarious position of that particular club at the moment.
These two players could both be accommodated alongside a big-money signing for Wrexham.
Smith tended to be used as an impact substitute by Danny Rohl at Sheffield Wednesday, which limited his game time, but does also mean that he can work within a rotational system.
With £10 million burning a hole in his pocket, Parkinson will have plenty of choice over whom to bring in as a third leg in a new-style Wrexham attack.
Reuniting Windass and Smith would certainly be a stark reminder to Sheffield Wednesday supporters of the difference between the way in which the Welsh club have been run in recent years in comparison with theirs.
