Former Cheltenham, Shrewsbury and Exeter striker Ryan Bowman has been banned for three-and-a-half years by the Football Association for placing 6,397 bets over an eight year period.

An independent commission has banned Bowman for 42 months for breaches of the FA’s betting regulation.

The 33-year-old striker is alleged to have placed around 2,600 bets from December 2020 until July 2021 while at Exeter, where he made 112 appearances. He is claimed to have made a further 3,100 between August 2021 and July 2023 during his time at Shrewsbury.

Of those bets, 108 were found to relate to matches or competitions involving Exeter City during his time at that club, and 243 were found to relate to matches or competitions involving Shrewsbury Town when he was with the Shropshire club.

It was during his time with the Shrews that the FA commission accused him of making a bet from the substitutes' bench in a clash with MK Dons in January 2023. He denied this, but his ban has been in place since March 2025, and he'll be suspended from the sport until September 2028.

Bowman, who was released by Cheltenham Town at the end of last season, admitted all charges brought against him.

He featured 22 times for the Robins during the 2024/25 campaign, scoring three goals, but did not appear in a matchday squad after the turn of the year. His contract officially expired in June and he is currently without a club.
