Rangers manager Russell Martin has told Sky Sports that Gers striker Cyriel Dessers has all but certainly played his last game for the Ibrox club.
The 30-year-old Rangers star came off the bench for the last 18 minutes in the goalless draw against Celtic today.
Dessers appeared to be waving his goodbyes to the Light Blues supporters at Ibrox at full-time, and Martin expects him to leave after he was linked with AEK Athens at the start of the summer transfer window.
“I think Cyriel has probably played his last game for the club,” the Bears boss told Sky Sports after the game.
Rangers are in talks to sign Everton striker Youssef Chermiti in a permanent deal that could be worth £10 million, and the Portuguese is expected to replace the Nigerian.
The Scottish Premiership club brought in Macedonian forward Bojan Miovski from Girona yesterday, and he was thrown into the starting XI against the Hoops.
The Gers signed Jayden Meghoma, Lyall Cameron, Djeidi Gassama, Thelo Aasgaard, Manny Fernandez, Nasser Djiga, Max Aarons, Mikey Moore, Joe Rothwell, Oliver Antman and Oscar Cortes earlier in the summer.
Chermiti and Marseille defender Derek Cornelius are expected to be signed before the transfer deadline tomorrow.
Rangers are without a win in their opening four league games of 2025-26 having drawn all of them, and Martin will hope his team can hit the ground running after the break.
The Light Blues are back in action on September 13 when they host Hearts in their fifth league game, and they could do with a win.
Dessers joined the Bears from Cremonese in July 2023 and has weighed in with 52 goals and 17 assists in 116 appearances.
He leaves as a hero having given his all for the jersey, and Martin will hope Chermiti can prove to be a solid replacement.
