Ruslan Malinovskyi edging towards Marseille exit

The transfer window has been very active at Marseille this summer. The likes of Ismaïla Sarr, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Renan Lodi have made for big-name signings. However, with over €50 million spent, the club are also hoping to see players exit the club as well, in order to balance the books.

According to L’Équipe, it may already be time to leave for former Atalanta midfielder Ruslan Malinovskyi. Having arrived from La Dea last January for €10 million (without bonuses), he has seemingly not impressed his new club at all.

According to the report, the Ukrainian is struggling to settle into the squad and is seriously irritating the club, as he was supposed to set Dimitri Payet aside for good. While the latter left the club in tears last month, Malinovskyi has not proved to anyone that he can live up to the expectations set on him. A return to Italy could be on the cards.

Meanwhile, other players could be looking elsewhere. As Cengiz Ünder is edging closer to Fenerbahçe, it seems that Mattéo Guendouzi and Isaak Touré both have interest coming from the Premier League. Chancel Mbemba could also be on his way out.

The new strategy for this summer is clear: the incoming transfers need to be (close to) self-sufficient with the fees brought in from sales. In the past, owner Frank McCourt has had to inject more money in order to balance the finances of the club, as well as selling two important players, rather than one.

Alexis Sánchez, Payet, Luis Suárez, Arkadiusz Milik, Sead Kolašinac, Kevin Strootman and Nemanja Radonjić have all left, Suárez and Milik being the only ones to bring a significant fee to the club. More exits are expected in a very busy August for the club.
