If a report from The Scottish Sun is believed to be true, Celtic have been identified as one of the potential suitors of PEC Zwolle left-back Kenneth Paal. A bid of around £750,000 from Barnsley has already been rejected for the former Dutch u17 international amid interest from the likes of AZ Alkmaar, St Etienne and Bordeaux.

The 24-year-old has opened up recently while speaking to De Stentor. He is elated about the Celtic rumours but, at the same time, has highlighted his aspiration of playing in England.

“[Celtic is] such a big club, with such a history, that’s always nice to hear. That just shows that you’re doing a good job.” “I’ve always said that (I want to play in England). That’s where I get the most out of my game. The Championship, the second tier in England, is a great competition. I would like to experience that one day.”

Although the Eredivisie side are likely to play hardball for their prized asset, Paal is expected to part ways in the coming days with less than a year left in his PEC contract. There’s been no progress over a new deal and the growing popularity should earn him a desired move prior to next season.

Celtic are desperate to recover lost ground under Ange Postecoglou. The newly appointed Aussie boss is keen on quick reinforcements and has already roped in Osaze Urhoghide to bolster his defence. Liam Shaw has reported for team training having penned a pre-contract agreement back in winter and the ex-Sheffield Wednesday pair are now gearing up for a fresh challenge overcoming their relegation nightmare. The gaffer has handed veteran Leight Griffiths a one-year extension and is currently working on recruiting a new left fullback to challenge and cover Greg Taylor.

Why Celtic Should Snap Up Paal

The Bhoys decided not to tie down Diego Laxalt on permanent terms following an underwhelming loan spell from AC Milan. Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo is back at Lennoxtown for pre-season but has fallen way down the pecking order. He was supposed to succeed Kieran Tierney for years to come, however, his form and disciplinary concerns resulted in a season-long loan to İstanbul Başakşehir. There he had limited appearances due to injury woes and the Turkish side opted not to retain his services beyond the previous term.

Celtic have explored the Dutch market time and again in recent years. They should try their luck once more thanks to Paal’s strong dribbling and crossing traits as well as attacking aspects from the left-hand flank.
