Atletico Madrid are reportedly down to the final details in a deal for Atalanta and Italy international wing-back Matteo Ruggeri for circa €20m.
According to Sky Sport Italia transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio and Fabrizio Romano, the two clubs are broadly in agreement and hope to get the paperwork finalised within 48 hours.
The Spanish side had been pushing for a left-back from Serie A throughout the summer, failing to agree terms first for Milan’s Theo Hernandez, then Angelino of Roma.
They finally seem to have secured a player for the position, swooping for Ruggeri of Atalanta.

He turns 23 next month and was lately included in the senior Italy squad for the first time by coach Luciano Spalletti.
Ruggeri is a product of the Atalanta youth academy who spent his entire career with the club, save for a brief loan spell at Salernitana in 2021-22.
This season he made 38 competitive appearances for the side, contributing three assists.
Versatility is part of his arsenal, able to play as a left wing-back, a left-back or even a central defender when required.
