Het Nieuwsblad have revealed that Rudi Garcia will be the next head coach of the Belgian national team. The Frenchman, who has been out of work since 2023, will take over from Domenico Tedesco who was sacked earlier in the week. Garcia won the race against the likes of Julien Lopetegui and Thierry Henry. Garcia’s first job will be to get the side into the 2026 World Cup.
Garcia has never managed at international level but has a wealth of experienced. His most recent job, however, was not successful. He only lasted a handful of months with Napoli before being sacked. Prior to that he spent most of his time in France, managing Saint Etienne, Dijon, Lille, Marseille and Lyon. During his time with Lille he won both the Ligue 1 title and the domestic cup in 2011. He had a few years with Roma and a season with Al Nassr in the Saudi Pro League.
Garcia’s first game in charge of the Red Devils will be against Ukraine in the Nations League play-offs in March.
