Ollie Arblaster's return to full fitness will be a huge boost for Ruben Selles at Sheffield United

Ruben Selles will receive a big boost with the return of Ollie Arblaster to the Sheffield United first team squad at the start of next season.

The midfielder suffered an injury in November and has been out of action ever since, which proved a crucial blow to the Blades in their bid for Premier League promotion.

The 21-year-old had enjoyed a bit of a breakout campaign with the club in the previous campaign, even with the club suffering relegation to the Championship.

And his initial performances in the second tier only further showcased his potential, but injuries put paid to that, and put a dent in Chris Wilder’s hopes of guiding the Yorkshire outfit back to the Premier League.

But now Selles could reap the reward of having him come back to full fitness, as he looks to go one better than the Blades’ play-off final disappointment.

Sheffield United could be set to lose Vini Souza as a midfield option this summer, but the return of Arblaster could make up for the setback this will cause to Selles’ plans.

The midfielder was showing a lot of promise in the Championship, particularly as a creative force that brings the team into dangerous positions, before his injury against Sheffield Wednesday in November.

He managed 12 appearances in the league prior to anterior cruciate ligament issue, which has kept him out of action for the last several months.

The youngster might not come up to speed immediately when the new season gets underway, such is the way players tend to recover from such a difficult injury, but there is no doubt his presence in the squad will be very useful for Selles in this upcoming year.

Sheffield United will want to be in the mix for promotion once again, and having someone of Arblaster’s quality in the side will only boost their chances of earning a top two finish.

Chris Wilder’s praise for Arblaster

Wilder knows as well as anyone just how much of an impact Arblaster can have for the Blades this season.

The former Sheffield United boss previously sung his praises amid past speculation over his future at Bramall Lane, emphasising his importance to the squad and his impressive maturity at such a young age.

"Blaster doesn't speak like a young lad in his first full year, really,” said Wilder, via The Star.

“We're delighted in terms of how he is and how he conducts himself.

“If, as a club, you’ve got a lot of players playing well and attracting interest, that means they're doing well and we're doing well as coaches.

“If he keeps playing well, who knows? It's a long way off.

“It’s music to the ears - not just mine, as Sheffield United manager and a Sheffield United supporter, but all our punters as well - that he wants to stay and he sees his immediate future with Sheffield United.

“We want to be at the top level and if we get there, Blaster's going to be key to that.”
