In his interview after last night’s win over Southampton, Thomas Tuchel revealed that Ruben Loftus-Cheek would have started, but had ruled himself out late on with an injury.
He then gave some details – “it’s his hip, he has a pain in his hip.”
It doesn’t sound too specific, which could be a good thing or a bad thing. But regardless, it’s been a blow already. Ruben seemed close to a start at the weekend, and after missing that would surely have got 90 against the Saints.
Now come a flurry of two game a week for a month, and the midfielder will be hoping to get fit as soon as possible, so he doesn’t miss more chances to get the minutes he needs to prove himself to Thomas Tuchel.
Players like Trevoh Chalobah have quickly played their way into the manager’s good books, and RLC was well on his way to doing so too before this unfortunate knock.
Let’s hope it’s minor, and he can be back right away to take advantage of the injuries elsewhere to really cement himself in the team.
