Ruben Dias has put pen to paper on a new deal with Manchester City which will run until 2029.
The 28-year-old has spent five years at the club, joining in 2020 and going on to win four Premier League titles under Pep Guardiola, as well as the Champions League in 2023.
“Obviously between many different things, I think the main one was to play at this level and for me here it’s perfect conditions – there’s nothing else I could want from football in terms of a place to be,” Dias said after signing his new deal.
“It’s been a hell of a ride so far and to have the opportunity to keep on going with all the ambition inthe world – and I know they’re (the fans) ambitious – and you can tell from the reactions of last season, which in a way, we appreciate.
“Myself and all of us appreciate as a club community because we want to push ourselves and want to win and the greatness of the club will always be defined by not accepting anything other than greatness.
“I feel them, and I feel that ambition as well and I share that ambition and I decided to stay here because ultimately I want to keep on winning and adding to my legacy and I want to stay at this level and perform at this level. I want to keep writing my beautiful story together with them and this club.”
Dias also says he is optimistic about what the future holds for City, with several new players having arrived both in January and this summer.
He continued: “I think it’s part of any renewal of a squad. New energy, new players.
“I remember even saying to Tijjani (Reijnders) before the game and I felt thrilled just by saying it as in ‘my friend, welcome to the Premier League, you’re going to enjoy it’. Because this is the level. This is the dream for everyone. Whatever they might be, if you’re a footballer, a top one, and you have ambition and you want to be at the top, this is where you want to end up.
“Even though I’ve just started my sixth season, just saying that to him made me feel like a young kid that just came in as well and I kind of shared the feeling of being new to all this.
“That’s the kind of feeling that keeps you winning, keeps you hungry, keeps you focused. Between many other things, that’s one of the little details that make the whole difference at the end in which we have to build on.”
