Ruben Amorim 'flies to London' for talks over Premier League move | OneFootball

Sporting Lisbon coach Ruben Amorim has reportedly flown to London for talks over a move to a Premier League club. However, Liverpool are believed to be only one of the clubs the Portuguese coach is set to meet with.

The 39-year-old coach has long been considered Liverpool's preferred candidate to replace Jurgen Klopp after Xabi Alonso committed his future to Bayer Leverkusen. However, it now appears that the Reds may be looking in a different direction when it comes to Klopp's successor.

The normally reliable David Ornstein from The Athletic reported in The Athletic early on Monday that Liverpool appointing Amorim in the summer looked "unlikely", suggesting that West Ham United were lining him up as a potential replacement for David Moyes.

Now, The Times' Duncan Castles has supported that claim, reporting that Amorim "flew to London today on a private jet for a meeting, accompanied by his agent".

Not completely ruled out

While the club Amorim was meeting was not confirmed by the aforementioned sources, Portugal-based journalist Pedro Sepúlveda believes that both West Ham and Liverpool have scheduled talks with the Portuguese.

While Sepúlveda's credibility has been questioned recently, it's worth noting that Ornstein didn't rule Liverpool out of the running completely.

The Sporting boss, who is on course to win a domestic double this term, has been coy on his future amid rumours linking him with Anfield.

According to Ornstein, West Ham are said 'to appeal' to Amorim but it's 'unclear where they sit' among his potential options at the end of the season should he leave Lisbon.

A 'brave' decision to be made?

Links with West Ham also suggest that it's Liverpool who are distancing themselves from Amorim rather than the other way round, perhaps meaning that the Reds are going to opt for a left-field appointment. It's claimed that Liverpool could be willing to make a brave rather than popular decision when it comes to appointing their next manager.

While Amorim is clearly a candidate that Liverpool have considered, today's updates suggest that the Reds may be leaning in a different direction when it comes to the club's next coach - although which direction that is remains unclear.
