Red Devils legend Roy Keane has stated that Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk would get into Manchester United’s 1999 treble-winning team.

Van Dijk, who signed for Liverpool from Southampton for a transfer fee of £75 million back in January 2018, has been immense for the club.

He has transformed himself into the best defender in the world since making the move to Anfield, and with that being the case, he has helped Liverpool become a force again.

In the past seven months, the Reds have won the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup.

Liverpool also possess a 25-point lead at the top of the Premier League table, meaning it is likely that Jurgen Klopp’s team will add the Premier League title to the aforementioned list of achievements.

Keane, who was having a conversation with Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher on Sky Sports, believes that Van Dijk would get into the Manchester United side that won the treble back in 1999.

“I don’t think it’s a big decision, put Van Dijk in next to [Jaap] Stam,” said Carragher, as quoted by The Daily Mail. “But who’s the best out of those two?”

“I’m a big fan of Van Dijk,” replied Keane. ‘The guy’s a machine, but Jaap was a machine, Jaap was fantastic. Van Dijk a touch better on the ball. The two of them together you can’t imagine conceding too many goals.”

Van Dijk would get into most teams, as he is that good. No player has had a greater impact at Liverpool Football Club in the past decade.

He has completely turned Liverpool’s defence around, and even rival supporters such as Keane can see that.
