Roy Keane has delivered his verdict about Christian Eriksen before Manchester United’s 2-1 loss against Brighton and Hove Albion.

The 30-year-old joined the Red Devils as a free agent last month following the expiry of his contract at Brentford.

The Dane’s arrival excited many fans he can make a big impact at Old Trafford but the club’s legend Keane is not entirely convinced.

The 50-year-old called the former Tottenham Hotspur star ‘a really good player’ but doesn’t think he can bring the glory days back at United.

He said (as per The Sun): “I think he’s a really good player.

“In the bigger picture, will he get United back competing for league titles? The answer’s no to that.

“My biggest worry for players like Eriksen, the big problem for United over the last few years when they’re out of possession, especially against the better teams, they’re not great at getting back.

“That’s not one of his strengths. He’s a talented player, but I’m not convinced he’s the answer, but a very good player obviously.”

How did Eriksen perform against Brighton?

Manager Erik ten Hag made the bold decision to bench Cristiano Ronaldo and feature Eriksen as a false 9.

The Portuguese star missed the club’s pre-season tour of Australia and Thailand due to personal reasons.

The Dane didn’t have a pre-season with the club either but Ten Hag still started him in an unfamiliar position.

The 30-year-old wasn’t very effective in the first-half and struggled to command the Red Devils’ front line. However, his influence in the match grew after Ronaldo was featured and he moved back into central midfield in the second-half.

The experienced midfielder completed two tackles, a clearance and a block while he also made 58 passes with a 74% success rate. He also made three key passes in the home encounter.

It surely wasn’t a vintage performance but it wasn’t terrible either.

On the back of his display today, Keane looks right that Eriksen is unlikely to bring the glory days back at Old Trafford. But he will likely prove to be a decent signing for United.
