Is there a harder man in the world of football than Roy Keane?

The Irishman is the personification of ‘no-nonsense’, making a career out of his merciless, take-no-prisoners brand.

As a pundit, Keane has become famous for never being shy to speak his mind, making him one of football’s biggest box office attractions whenever he is sat behind a microphone.

However, it wasn’t in the studio where Keane’s reputation was made, but rather on the pitch during his storied career.

Keane was a crucial cog in the Sir Alex Ferguson winning machine that was Manchester United, helping the club to seven Premier League titles and that famous Champions league triumph in 1999.

Over the course of 468 appearances, Keane would endear himself as a club legend thanks to his unrelenting commitment to the cause.

It was very rare that Keane would take no for an answer, and, while that often got him into trouble, it is what made him the special player he was.

Keane had an eye to read the game unlike any other and was the authority on breaking up attacks before they were allowed to even get going.

He did that using a regime of belligerent tackles and raw physicality that often left the opposition player in a heap on the ground.

However, while there is a stereotype around Keane that he was effective but not necessarily pretty, footage doing the rounds on Twitter suggests that wasn’t always the case.

In fact, the footage in question shows Keane pulling off some gorgeous, Maldini-esque sliding challenges which, of course, are punctuated by some rather agricultural efforts as well.

Brilliant. It is so easy to overlook just how good Keane was in his pomp.

Sadly, his United career would end in controversy after a falling out with Alex Ferguson.

He would step into management with various roles before finding his true calling as a pundit where he continues to delight audiences with his brutal opinions on a regular basis.

With the Premier League set to roar back into life this weekend, we just can’t wait for yet more quality Keane content to hit our screens.
