FLW's Rotherham United fan pundit has named the player he would most like to see the club target this summer.
This article is part of Football League World's 'Terrace Talk' series, which provides personal opinions from our FLW Fan Pundits regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more...
It is set to be a big summer for Rotherham United after an underwhelming first season back in League One.
After making a host of eye-catching signings early in the summer transfer window, Rotherham were widely considered to be one of the promotion favourites heading into the season, but it certainly did not work out that way, and manager Steve Evans was sacked in March with the club sitting 16th in the table.
Matt Hamshaw initially took interim charge of the Millers after Evans' exit before being handed the permanent job on a three-year contract last month, and after a positive end to the season, his side finished the campaign in a slightly more respectable 13th place.
Hamshaw has made it clear that he is keen to stamp his mark on the squad this summer, and despite only being in the job for a matter of weeks, he has already drawn up a list of potential transfer targets, so it could be a busy few months ahead at the New York Stadium.
When asked which player he would realistically like the club to sign this summer, FLW's Rotherham United fan pundit Tom Eyre urged the Millers to make a move for Charlton Athletic midfielder Terry Taylor.
It is fair to say it has not worked out for Taylor at The Valley, with the 23-year-old making just 21 appearances for the Addicks since joining the club in the summer of 2023, and he spent the second half of this season on loan at Northampton Town.
However, Taylor impressed during his loan spell with the Cobblers, scoring one goal and providing two assists in 19 games to help Kevin Nolan's men to League One survival, and Tom believes his time at Sixfields should convince Rotherham to swoop for him this summer.
"A realistic signing I'd love for us to make is Terry Taylor from Charlton, who was on loan at Northampton at the end of last season," Tom told FLW.
"I think he's a very good player and an exceptionally good holding midfielder.
"He can play by himself or with another.
"I think he suits all the characteristics for a Matt Hamshaw and Rotherham United type player, he's exactly what we need.
"We have the likes of Liam Kelly, but he's getting on now at 35 and isn't going to be playing every week, although he would be a perfect player for Taylor to learn under.
"I think his ball-carrying, ball-winning and set-piece delivery is exceptional, so he's somebody that I'd like to look at."
Rotherham do not have the biggest budget in League One, so identifying players like Taylor who could be available for a cut-price fee will be key for Hamshaw as he looks to rebuild his squad this summer.
On the face of it, it would seem a strange move for the Millers to target a player who was deemed surplus to requirements by Charlton, who occupy an area of the table they will be aiming for next season, but Taylor showed plenty of potential during his loan stint at Northampton, and he could be a shrewd acquisition for the South Yorkshire outfit.
However, as FLW exclusively revealed last month, Championship side Coventry City are keeping tabs on Taylor ahead of the summer window, and if the Sky Blues or another second tier club were to make a surprise move for the midfielder, it would be difficult for Rotherham to land his signature.
