That's according to a report from The Shropshire Star, who claim that a number of other clubs who will be playing League One football next season are also interested in the goalkeeper.
The 2023/24 campaign was one to forget for Rotherham, who were relegated back to the third tier of English football after two years in the Championship.
However, the Millers have already done considerable work in the transfer window, signing the likes of Jonson Clarke-Harris, Sean Raggett, Liam Kelly and more as they look to bounce back under returning manager Steve Evans.
Now it seems as though they may also be closing in on another signing, as they prepare for the new campaign and the comeback of Evans to the dugout.
As per this latest update, Rotherham are now also in pole position to sign Marko Marosi this summer.
Marosi is out of contract at Shrewsbury this summer, meaning he is available on a free transfer as things stand.
The club confirmed in their end of season retained list that they have offered the goalkeeper a new deal to extend his stay at The New Meadow.
Despite that, the 30-year-old is expected to move on, and is also said to be attracting attention from Birmingham City, Huddersfield Town and Wrexham this summer.
However, it is Rotherham who are currently thought to be at the front of the queue to secure the services of Marosi.
If they do complete this deal, the goalkeeper could become their eighth signing of the summer window.
Jonson Clarke-Harris, Reece James, Liam Kelly, Shaun McWilliams, Joe Powell, Joe Rafferty and Sean Raggett have all already completed permanent moves to The New York Stadium this summer.
Since joining Shrewsbury in the summer of 2021 from Coventry City in the summer of 2021, Marosi has made 147 appearances in all competitions for the club, keeping 35 clean sheets in that time.
Like Rotherham, both Birmingham and Huddersfield were relegated from the Championship to League One last season.
Wrexham meanwhile, were promoted from League Two, their second promotion in as many seasons.
For their part, Shrewsbury finished the campaign 19th in the League One table, four points clear of the relegation zone.
It does feel as though the signing of Marosi would be a good one for Rotherham United to make this summer.
The club have already lost their first-choice goalkeeper since the end of the season, with Viktor Johansson making the move to Stoke City.
Evans will likely therefore need reinforcements in that position, and in Marosi would be getting a solid and experienced option at this level.
Given he is available on a free with his contract expiring, that could also keep funds from the Johansson sale available to be invested in strengthening other areas of the squad.
It is also worth noting that Birmingham have both John Ruddy and Neil Etheridge out of contract this summer, while Arthur Okwonko has departed Wrexham for now after his loan spell, although the Red Dragons want to sign the youngster on a permanent basis.
So not only would the Millers be strengthening their own squad with this deal, they would be denying their potential rivals a boost in the transfer market as well.
With all that in mind, it would no doubt make sense for Rotherham United to try and get this deal done - and the sooner the better.
