Former England captain Wayne Rooney says they can't get carried away with victory over Croatia in their Euro 2020 opener.

Rooney insists the Three Lions' main priority should be getting Manchester United defender Harry Maguire and Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson fit.

Both stars were nursing injuries when selected in Gareth Southgate's 26-man squad for the summer tournament.

But Henderson has since featured in England's 1-0 friendly win over Romania and was named on the bench for the team's opener against Croatia, while Maguire has re-joined the squad in training.

Derby boss Rooney told Sky Sports: "There's a lot of quality in the squad, my only worry is a lack of experience - it's important Harry Maguire and Jordan Henderson get fit because they will be vital moving forward.

"Quality-wise they have as much as anyone in the competition and they have a great chance."

Despite the two stars not featuring in England's win, the team's all-time record goalscorer added he was impressed with the performance at Wembley.

"It was a good positive start, a solid professional performance," Rooney added.

"With the heat it was never going to be an end-to-end game, it was always going to be a game of moments.

"To win that was massive, Croatia are a good team and it will give the players a relief that they are comfortable in the group now.

"They'll be a bit more relaxed going into the game against Scotland and if they didn't win they could have been a bit anxious."
