Premiership giants Rangers picked up an important win in the Europa League tonight after the match against Belgian outfit Standard Liege ended with a 2-0 scoreline. The Ibrox club didn’t have too many clear cut chances to score with Alfredo Morelos wasting a couple of the more presentable ones that they had. The first goal of the match was scored from the spot-kick by James Tavernier, after a Liege player was penalised for seemingly handling the ball in his own box. Kemar Roofe then took the Liege keeper by surprise when he let one rip from the halfway line and actually ended up finding the net. The goal ensured Rangers would take home what could prove to be an important three points in the context of their Europa League group stage adventure.

Rangers Player Ratings Vs Standard Liege

Allan McGregor – 6

The veteran keeper had a couple of horror moments when the ball fortunately bounced off the frame of the goal. Charged forward and collected when required to and release it quickly as well.

James Tavernier – 8

The skipper continued his sensational scoring run this season with yet another first-half spot-kick. Wasn’t given the easiest time in defence by the Liege attackers but dealt with it strongly.

Connor Goldson – 7

The Englishman made a number of crucial tackles in the defensive third as he commanded the box rather efficiently as well. Needs to deal with crosses into the box with more aerial dominance.

Leon Balogun – 6.5

The Nigerian centre-half didn’t look the strongest when dealing with certain set-piece situations, but he won a number of important tackles in the Rangers box as Liege piled on the pressure.

Borna Barisic – 6

The Croatian tried to get forward and make things happen in the first half but was unable to have too much of an impact. Unfortunately had to be subbed off with an injury.

Ryan Jack – 7.5

The midfielder is only just returning from injury, and his lack of sharpness showed on a couple of instances. Moved the ball around with great composure though and protected the back-line too.

Glen Kamara – 6.5

The Finnish midfielder wasn’t able to have too much of an impact on the proceedings but he did the simple things well enough. Did get caught in possession on a couple of occasions though.

Scott Arfield – 7

The Scot continued his good run of form in attack as he linked up the play quite efficiently all through the ninety. Picked up some dangerous positions in the final third and offered himself well.

Ianis Hagi – 6.5

The Romanian attacker looked careless with the ball at his feet, but managed to find multiple wonderful passes into space. Tried to find the target from distance but couldn’t manage it.

Alfredo Morelos – 4

The Colombian had a poor game leading the line as he wasted multiple great chances to potentially double the Gers’ early advantage. His touch let him down on various instances during the tie.

Ryan Kent – 7

The speedster tried to make his presence felt in attack and looked the player likeliest to produce something from open play for Rangers tonight. Did look sharper than most in possession of the ball though.

Substitutes

Calvin Bassey – 7

The speedster was required to come on in place of the injured Barisic a few minutes before the half-time whistle, and he did well. Got forward and linked up the play when required to.

Joe Aribo – 6

Kept his composure after coming into the tie in the second half, especially considering that he was just returning from an extended spell out injured.

Kemar Roofe – NA

Scored a goal from behind the halfway line to double the Hoops’ advantage late on, and looked dangerous for the most part. But still did not spend enough time to warrant a rating.
