We may never see an out-and-out striker quite like Ronaldo Nazario again.

Had the Brazilian icon avoided serious knee injuries while he was at Inter Milan, he’d almost certainly be in the ‘GOAT’ debate alongside Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Diego Maradona and Pele.

As a youngster, Ronaldo was quite simply unplayable. He averaged close to a goal a game at PSV Eindhoven as a baby-faced teenager, before dropping one of the great individual seasons at Barcelona in 1996/97.

The man aptly nicknamed ‘Il Fenomeno’ scored 47 times in 49 appearances and halfway through the campaign at the end of 1996, he won the first of his three FIFA World Player of the Year awards at the age of just 20 – making him the youngest player to collect the accolade.

Then at 21, Ronaldo scooped the 1997 Ballon d’Or, which saw him become the youngest ever recipient of that award too, a record that remains intact to this very day.

The guy is the definition of an all-time great and the story of his career is one that needs to be taught to the younger generation.

Ronaldo’s soon-to-be released documentary

And thankfully, it’s going to be in the form of a new DAZN Original documentary.

On Thursday, which was Ronaldo’s 46th birthday, the man himself tweeted a video of the official trailer for ‘The Phenomenon’ flick and to say it looks unmissable would be something of an understatement.

Iconic figures such as Christian Vieri, Paolo Maldini, Zinedine Zidane, Diego Simeone and Roberto Carlos feature in the short clip and you can watch it in all of its glory below.

It looks incredible, doesn’t it?

The end of the video is the ultimate teaser as well, as Ronaldo and Carlos begin to talk about their experiences before the 1998 World Cup final against France.

In case you’re unaware, Ronaldo – who was the tournament’s star performer going into the game – suffered a convulsive fit in his hotel room and was initially removed from Brazil‘s starting XI.

But shortly before kick-off, the striker was reinstated to the team, although it was evident throughout the course of the South American nation’s 3-0 defeat that he wasn’t in the right physical or mental state.

After the game, Ronaldo said: “We lost the World Cup but I won another cup – my life.”

We can’t wait to hear their side of the story and also to see the joy on the pair’s faces when the topic of the 2002 World Cup comes up, which Brazil won thanks to Ronaldo’s eight goals – including two in the final against Germany.
