The 35-year-old will go down as one of the greatest defenders football has ever seen.

In a video message, he said: “Football has given me everything. Barcelona has given me everything. You, culers (Barcelona fans), have given me everything.

“And now that [this] kid’s dreams have come true, I want to tell you that I’ve decided that now is the time to bring this journey to its end.

“This Saturday’s game will be my last at Camp Nou. I will become a regular fan. I will support the team. I will pass my love for Barcelona to my children.

“And you know me – sooner or later, I’ll be back.”

Pique has had an incredible career

Pique came through Barcelona’s La Masia academy before moving to Manchester United as a 17-year-old. However, despite winning the League Cup, Premier League and Champions League, he made just 23 appearances under Sir Alex Ferguson before a return to Barcelona.

And under Pep Guardiola at Camp Nou, Pique became one of the best defenders in world football for both club and country.

The trophies came regularly as the Spaniard won everything there was to win.

In fact, Pique will retire with 37 major trophies to his name. That makes him the player with the sixth-most trophies in football history.

Incredible.
