Robert Lewandowski is having another fine season in the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich.
The Polish striker has broken the 30-goal mark in Germany’s top tier for the third consecutive season.
He currently sits on 34 goals scored with two games of the campaign remaining.
But how does his 2021/22 tally compare with the best goalscoring seasons of the 21st century?
PopFoot have looked at the data and named the 20 most prolific goalscoring seasons in Europe’s top five leagues since 2000.
View their findings below…
20. Lionel Messi – 34 goals (2017/18)
19. Lionel Messi – 34 goals (2009/10)
18. Cristiano Ronaldo – 34 goals (2012/13)
17. Robert Lewandowski – 34 goals* (2021/22)
16. Robert Lewandowski – 35 goals (2019/20)
15. Edinson Cavani – 35 goals (2016/17)
14. Cristiano Ronaldo – 36 goals (2015/16)

1. Lionel Messi – 50 goals (2011/12)
Unsurprisingly, the list is dominated by two of the greatest players to have ever lived: Messi and Ronaldo.
The duo account for 12 of the 20 most prolific league campaigns of the 21st century.
Messi’s tally of 50 goals from just 37 games in the 2011/ 12 season is quite ridiculous and is a record that may stand for some time.
Lewandowski’s 2021/22 tally is currently the 17th best goalscoring season in Europe’s top five leagues since 2000.
He needs to score three goals in Bayern’s last two games to break into the top 10.
